Evonik Supports Science Education At Lockland High School

Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity

LOCKLAND, Ohio, December 4, 2007 – Evonik Industries, whose chemical operations were formerly known as Degussa, today presented Lockland High School with a $500 community grant to support the school's science education programs.

Joseph Won, site manager of Evonik’s Lockland facility, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity.

"We're proud of what we do here in Lockland and we are proud of our industry," Won said. "Chemistry is a cornerstone of our society. Without it, many of the products, conveniences and medicines to which we've become accustomed would not exist."

Ben Hubbard, principal at Lockland High School, said the $500 donation was the latest contribution Evonik has made to the Lockland school system.

“Evonik is always doing terrific things for our schools,” said Hubbard. “We’ve always had a great relationship with Joe Won and the plant. They are always willing to help with our students and their science projects. We are very glad there is a company like Evonik who is promoting science. We are very grateful to them for their donation.”

The $500 grant is Evonik’s way of celebrating with its neighbors in Lockland but is also a continuation of the company-wide commitment to science education, said Won “Learning about the wonders of science can serve as a great inspiration for students, who may go on to be the chemists, researchers, or engineers of tomorrow,” he added. Evonik employees have a deep commitment to science education, he noted.  “By supporting our educational institutions,” Won said, “we are investing in the development of new scientific discoveries, future research and development researchers, and global economic advancement.”
