Evonik Supports Gibbons Community By Donation to Redwater Library

Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity

GIBBONS, AB, Canada, December 4, 2007 –- Evonik Degussa Canada, Inc. today presented Redwater Library with a $500 community grant to support the Library’s outreach programs.

Richard Boettcher, Evonik site manager, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity as well as continue its commitment to the communities where employees live and work.

"We're proud of what we do here in Gibbons and we are proud of our industry," Boettcher said. "Chemistry is a cornerstone of our society. Without it, many of the products, conveniences and medicines to which we've become accustomed would not exist. Our employees also want to help, in our own small way, better the lives of individuals in our hometowns."

Judy Dewald, Director of Library Services at Redwater Library, said she was impressed by Evonik Degussa Canada's donation because Site Manager Richard Boettcher requested that the company's gift benefit all five libraries in Sturgeon County - Redwater, Bon Accord, Morinville, Edmonton Garrison and Gibbons, where the plant is located.

"We are very pleased that a company like Evonik Degussa Canada sought to ask a local organization to think of a way to spend the money to benefit all the local libraries," said Dewald. "We decided to purchase a 'Daisy Reader' for individuals who are visually or physically challenged. The Daisy Reader will enable them to listen to CD/Daisy Reader audio books. It's a wonderful addition to Sturgeon Area Libraries and a much appreciated donation by Evonik Degussa Canada."

Bettcher added that the $500 grant is Evonik’s way of celebrating with its neighbors but is also a continuation of the company’s charitable activities.

“We think it’s important to be an integral part of the community,” he continued.  “Evonik and its employers have a tremendous sense of corporate responsibility.  Our employees are known well for their efforts in contributions, time and donations.”
