Evonik Provides Funds To Support Science At Environmental Center   

Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity  

MOBILE, Ala., December 4, 2007 - Evonik Industries – whose chemical operations were formerly known as Degussa – today presented Mobile’s Environmental Studies Center with a $500 community grant to support the Center’s science education program.  

Tom Bates, Evonik vice president and Mobile site manager, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity as Evonik Industries.  

"We want to show residents that we're proud of what we do here in Mobile and that we are proud of our industry," Bates said. "Chemistry is a cornerstone of our society. Without it, many of the products, conveniences and medicines to which we've become accustomed would not exist."  

Lloyd Scott, director of the Environmental Studies Center, noted that the Mobile Evonik site is a Partner in Education with the Center.  

"Evonik is an outstanding member of the business community and a long time supporter of the Environmental Studies Center," said Scott. "We can always count on Evonik for its support."   Scott said the donation will enable hundreds of youngsters who otherwise wo

"We're targeting students from the inner city and other underserved communities who haven't had the opportunity to visit our facility,” Scott said. “While on their field trip, we will engage them in hands on learning opportunities about our area’s natural environment and the bountiful wildlife found here along the Gulf Coast. This educational experience would not be available without Evonik's help."  

Bates added that the donation is a continuation of Evonik’s company-wide commitment to science education. “Learning about the wonders of science can serve as a great inspiration for students, who may go on to be the chemists, researchers, or engineers of tomorrow,” he added.  

With approximately 700 workers, the Evonik Mobile site is one of the area’s largest employers. This site manufactures a wide range of products that create the products necessary to enjoy a better standard of living today and tomorrow.
