Evonik Degussa Corporation’s Mobile Site Donates $1,000 To Mobile Ballet
Funds To Be Used to Expand Cultural Opportunities For Students, Area Residents
MOBILE, Ala., November 8, 2007 – Evonik Degussa Corporation, one of the largest employers in the Mobile area, has contributed $1,000 under the site’s “Essential to the Community” donation program to the Mobile Ballet to enable more people to enjoy ballet.
Winthrop Corey, artistic director of the Mobile Ballet - which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year - said the organization is extremely grateful to Evonik for its continuing financial support, which will be used to help the Ballet to continue to produce high quality productions.
“Evonik Degussa Corporation is well known as a strong leader in our community for their support of the arts,” said Corey. “This is just another example of their generosity. Thanks to Evonik’s support, more people in the community will be able to enjoy the Ballet.”
The Mobile Ballet’s cultural programs have benefited local residents including Blaine Hoven, a member of the corp de ballet of the American Ballet Theatre and son of Evonik employee Darla Hoven and her husband, Milton. Blaine, who will star in the Mobile Ballet production of The Nutcracker on December 8 and 9, said dance is an integral part of arts education and awareness.
“Mobile Ballet plays a tremendous role in developing this awareness and education in the community,” said Blaine. “Without support from corporations such as Evonik, this would not be possible. The Mobile Ballet relies on the support and generosity of local area sponsors like Evonik.”
Dr. Joerg Kemnade, vice president, Process Technology & Engineering (PTE) at Evonik Degussa Corporation, said a world class city such as Mobile deserves a world class Ballet. “Cultural activities as ballet are an integral part of the quality of life in our city,” Kemnade explained. “Ballet is important because it is a way of communicating the feelings of our souls without saying any words. It helps ignite our intellect, propel our emotional development and reward us with sheer beauty. Evonik Degussa Corporation is pleased to support bringing ballet to more people in the Mobile area.”
With approximately 700 workers, the Evonik Mobile site is one of the area’s largest employers. This site manufactures a wide range of products that create the essentials necessary to enjoy a better standard of living today and tomorrow.
